Hi Folks!
Yesterday was a beautiful day and today promises to be another one, here in northwest Arkansas! Supposed to be almost 70 degrees here today. I plan on enjoying it! I hope it is beautiful weather in your area too! The puppies will all be going to their new homes next week. I love the puppies but I am always ready for them to leave and go to their new homes. I am not going to be without a puppy tho. Getting a new female next weekend and bringing home to add to my dog family. Gotta come up with a name. I want something unique/different and catchy. Have had Blanca and Harlequin suggested. (Call her Harley for that 2nd one) And I might settle on one of those, but if you have something different/catchy for a female white shepherd – send your ideas my way. I can use all the help I can get and I sure would appreciate it!
Yesterday it was so beautiful I spent some time out in the yard and let the puppies run around in the yard. This was their first time out of the actual fenced in area of the kennel. They liked it so much that I spent the afternoon putting them back in the kennel area after they found my “weak spots” in my kennel fencing! Then I spent the evening fixing those weak spots so they wouldn’t get out again! LOL They sure enjoyed getting that time out and about though, so I couldn’t be upset with them. They are their mother’s babies!! I have attached a picture of Snowflake leading her litter into a larger world below.
I have received a couple emails this week from another breeder friend of mine with an alert by the American Veterinary Medical Association. This is regarding jerky treats made in China. I don’t feed my dogs a lot of snack treats. I do purchase snack bones and once in a great while some of those bacon treats – but for the most part I stay away from processed treats. My breeder friend feeds all her dogs a raw diet. I have considered that and am exploring that more. I know that a lot of processed foods can cause your dogs harm. Dallas & Lacey – you might find this information very useful.
This is the info from the AVMA: Schaumburg, Ill. — The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has recently been made aware of several complaints from pet owners and veterinarians that multiple brands of jerky treats manufactured in China have been making pets sick. Symptoms of illness have included vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy… You can read the full article at: http://www.avma.org/press/media_alerts/070914_jerky_treats.asp
Another article Christy sent me was on heartworms. That link is: http://www.thewholedog.org/heartworm.html. As I read these articles and went to several of natural way of treating your dogs I think there are a lot of good validations for this form of feeding and treatment of your dogs health. For more information visit Christy’s websites. She has an enormous amount of information and many links. These are her links. www.guardianangelshepherds.com and www.guardianangelshepherds2.com
On heartworms – heartworms come from mosquitoes. The above article gives a very in-depth description of the heartworm and how to prevent a heartworm infestation in your pet. Personally I use Ivermectin. It is much cheaper than the heartworm medications sold by the pet supply stores and vets and seems to be quite effective. So until I change my dogs diets and treatments – this is what I use. You can purchase it at your local farm supply. On the flip side…. This is what the FDA has to say about heartworms and treatment: http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm048128.htm
Well I am off to play with the puppies and let them explore the yard again today.
Ya all have a wonderful weekend!
